He's been in Chandler for a "long while" now and to open a place like Hidden House in his community feels "amazing," he said. Now, the 850-square-foot house, where some of the original elements have been preserved, has a renewed life that harkens back to a Colonial, cozy vintage look with white wainscoting and dark wood floors—and plenty of room for modern hospitality options. "There are so many cocktails, classic ones that people don't know about, like three dots and a dash, and it's nice to show how drinks have evolved from pre-Prohibition to New Era," Jacobs said. The cocktail menu spans four distinct periods — pre-Prohibition, Prohibition, tiki and New Era — and use original, historically-accurate recipes, Jacobs said. Jacobs described the food as "New American," with entrees than range from squash ravioli with shiitake mushrooms to miso-marinated salmon served with ramen noodles.

But at the Hidden House, a newly-opened Chandler restaurant, diners can do just that. The back patio has a second bar with about 10 seats and more tables seated underneath a wooden pergola. According to Jacobs, he wanted to create a restaurant that was “unique, special and different" yet approachable to everyone whether they were looking for something casual or something more upscale. Behind that is a hangar, which has more of an outdoor-that-is-indoor feel with live trees, floral chandeliers, booths and tables, and two 14-foot garage-style windows that open and connect to the back patio. The cocktail book lineup includes generation-specific drinks such as sidecars, Hemingway daiquiris, and chartreuse swizzles from pre-Prohibition, Prohibition, Tiki and New Age eras—designed lightest to darkest—and tap cocktails that are made in-house. In addition, approximately 100 wines, eight beers on tap, and more than 30 canned beers are available.
